stand up auburn

Created in WordPress using the Salient theme, I worked to create a unified, smooth experience. By focusing on two things: Our message; Your stories, I was able to create balance throughout the design.

  • Software: WordPress
  • Client: Auburn University
  • Project Type: Web Design/Graphic Design/Photography

about this project

In my Public Relations Campaigns class, twenty seniors were responsible for creating a complete integrated campaign for our client, the Anti-Defamation League. Our topic? #InnovateAgainstHate.

We decided to focus on gender and sexual discrimination with an emphasis on sexual assault/harassment on Auburn’s campus. We wanted to build awareness of the issue, partner with relevant student organizations on campus, and we wanted people to pledge to help.

I was personally responsible for creating the content for the campaign, including shooting all the video, creating the logo and other designs, shooting photography and creating the website (which has since been taken down). Through my work elsewhere, I’d had experience in each of these areas, and I was eager to apply my skills.

Website

Formerly hosted at www.standupauburn.org, the site was designed in WordPress using the Salient theme. It served as a landing page, informing people about the campaign and offering them a place to share their stories.

Digital Media

As part of the project, our class worked to feature the stories of students affected by sexual harassment/gender discrimination. I personally created all digital assets for the campaign, ranging from photography to design to videography. Below I’ve included stories we captured, highlights from our petition collection and the photographs I shot to promote the campaign.

our results

In targeting the silent majority, we focused on Auburn students between ages 18-26, working to inform them about the prevalence of sexual harassment/sexual assault on our own campus. Our primary research indicated that students on campus were woefully uninformed, so we used social media, newspaper outreach, and public events to raise awareness. We partnered with an established group, Auburn’s Green Dot program, to encourage students to intervene in unsafe situations.

Throughout the campaign, we generated 51,081 impressions across Facebook and Instagram, including 93 shares. We collected 511 signatures on our petition, easily exceeding our goal of 300.

In all, the campaign was successful, allowing us to both raise awareness for a good cause while allowing us to directly support an established organization on campaign.

Jack is an amazing young man. He truly impressed me in class. Jack is dedicated and will work his hardest to complete any task. He is always willing to take on a challenge. He can lead, but he can also take direction. He understands constructive criticism and is able to take suggestions to make his work even stronger. Jack has knowledge and ability in public relations, but he is also skilled with photography and design. Jack is able to work with others or independently. He is also respectful of others.

Brigitta Brunner

Professor, Auburn University

I cannot speak highly enough about Jack Parrish. Jack exhibits an excellent desire and willingness to take on new assignments and responsibilities. He is dependable, conscientious and works collaboratively in an agency environment... He is one of the most talented young people I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
