about this project

For companies dealing with large volumes of data, infographics easily communicate the bottom line to shareholders. Whether it’s featured prominently an organization’s publication or tweeted to thousands of followers, the right infographic makes a bold statement. It reinforces your message, preventing the audience from losing sight of the power of the words and numbers you’re communicating.

My Infographic

The Process

For my design, I decided to create a quick infographic for one of my favorite recipes: Gordon Ramsay’s scrambled eggs. My girlfriend and I discovered the recipe a few months ago, and we love surprising each other with it. Forget the traditional rubbery stuff you’re used to, these eggs are light, fluffy and perfectly creamy.

In the creation process, I realized how infographics are often difficult to design. Learning to use the proper tools, finding/creating graphic assets, and tweaking the final image often cost precious hours and manpower. For a professional graphic designer, that process moves much faster, but professional graphic designers are expensive.

Thankfully for the rest of us, Canva exists. Canva is a website dedicated to helping non-designers catch up, and the website’s easy-to-use graphic tools make quick, stunning infographics possible.

For the design itself, I explored Canva for infographic inspiration, then I created the layout and formatted the text in Adobe Indesign. I wanted to add an additional visual element, so I created the black and white graphic art in Adobe Illustrator by tracing some stock photos. I elected to use Montserrat for the primary text (to match the rest of my website), but I didn’t love the use of it for the headings, so I used Franklin Gothic Heavy instead.

Calameo does compress the image a bit, so if you’d like to see the original design in its full resolution, please click here to download it. Or download .jpg or .png versions, if you wish.

Jack is an amazing young man. He truly impressed me in class. Jack is dedicated and will work his hardest to complete any task. He is always willing to take on a challenge. He can lead, but he can also take direction. He understands constructive criticism and is able to take suggestions to make his work even stronger. Jack has knowledge and ability in public relations, but he is also skilled with photography and design. Jack is able to work with others or independently. He is also respectful of others.

I cannot speak highly enough about Jack Parrish. Jack exhibits an excellent desire and willingness to take on new assignments and responsibilities. He is dependable, conscientious and works collaboratively in an agency environment... He is one of the most talented young people I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
