social media release

Created for a class project, I crafted this release based on a real-world event: Auburn Campus Recreation’s Get Rec’d event. Held the first week of school, the celebration welcomes freshmen to campus – and introduces them to local vendors.

  • Software: Microsoft Word
  • Client: Auburn University
  • Project Type: Writing Sample

about this project

First, this is a proof-of-concept release, and it was not used to promote the actual event.

Pitch

Ready for Welcome Week’s biggest party? Check out Get Rec’d, Auburn Campus Recreation’s signature annual event, featuring free food, games, fitness activities and prizes! Last year we saw a record-setting turnout of more than 5,000 students, and this year looks to be no different. Winners of last year’s games received exclusive gear including a Moe’s-styled electric guitar, Auburn bicycle, and hundreds of dollars in gift cards to local shops.

Background

In 2014, Auburn Campus Recreation launched Get Rec’d, a fun, back-to-school extravaganza, to welcome students to campus. By partnering with and supporting local businesses, Auburn Campus Recreation welcomed in more than 30 different vendors, supplying students with free food, prizes, and more than a dozen games. Thousands of students showed up, and the event was a huge success. Since then, attendance has improved every year. This year marks the fourth Get Rec’d event.

Facts

  • The event takes place on Aug. 21, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Auburn University’s Recreation and Wellness Center.
  • The event is free.
  • Only students and faculty/staff with memberships to The Rec may attend.
  • Convenient parking is available in the Coliseum and Auburn Arena parking lots.
  • First 2,000 students to arrive receive t-shirts.

Jack is an amazing young man. He truly impressed me in class. Jack is dedicated and will work his hardest to complete any task. He is always willing to take on a challenge. He can lead, but he can also take direction. He understands constructive criticism and is able to take suggestions to make his work even stronger. Jack has knowledge and ability in public relations, but he is also skilled with photography and design. Jack is able to work with others or independently. He is also respectful of others.

I cannot speak highly enough about Jack Parrish. Jack exhibits an excellent desire and willingness to take on new assignments and responsibilities. He is dependable, conscientious and works collaboratively in an agency environment... He is one of the most talented young people I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
